So apparently there’s an honest to G-d actual WPBA event happening this weekend.  After a 3 month layoff, the WPBA is heading to Norman, OK for the US Open.  As has become standard for the WPBA, there has been zero chatter about this event other than a fairly boilerplate press release that went out a few days ago.

I find this very interesting.  Traditionally, there are two “major” events on the WPBA docket – The US Open and the Tour Championships.  This year, there apparently will not be a Tour Championship (as there still isn’t one on the schedule) and the US Open is by all accounts struggling to fill their field.  I’m naturally pumped to hear that some of my 1.0 hotties got the invites (Niki Rasmussen and Ashley Nandrasy), but I’ll be very curious to see who doesn’t show.

Good news/bad news for anyone interested in watching the matches.  The good news is that they’ll be taping from the quarters for ESPN.  The bad news is that there won’t be a stream.  That means fans will be reliant on the WPBA updating the brackets (assuming they post the brackets) to see how their favorites are doing.  If there are brackets, I’ll break them down on Wednesday night.

To be clear, this is a bit of a watershed moment for the WPBA.  They’re probably not going to fill the number of TV hours required in their ESPN contract, they’re about to lose their biggest draw in J-Thuggery as she’s close to being ready to pop and by all accounts they are having a really tough time getting a full field for what should be the biggest event of the year.  We shall see if the WPBA is able to steer itself away from the cliff.
