The new month is here, which means its time for more snappy answers to stupid questions.  This month’s participant?  None other than 2010 BCAPL champ, Gail Glazebrook.

1. I’ve heard that your nickname is G Squared. Recently Gatorade launched a new sports drink called G2. Coincidence, or are you slated to be the new spokesperson for Gatorade now that Tiger has been dumped?  Throw in that I’m an actual Gator Alumni and the beautiful synergy is a real mind screw! But sadly no, Gatorade hasn’t come to offer me a gajillion dollar sponsorship. Blasted pool world slump!!!

2. From what I’ve been told, New York has its fair share of pool talent. I don’t wanna go all east coast/west coast, but SoCal’s got some skill too. Let’s hear you represent for your town.  I feel really blessed to play pool in NY. There’s a tournament, league, or tour stop available nearly everyday of the week. You can find a sparring partner, from very beginner to top pro, really, whenever you want. That versatile accessibility alone is very helpful in building strong players. We get access to so many of the world’s top players traveling to NYC as a destination or in passing and many end up playing in our tours and visiting Amsterdam Billiards. I believe these traveling pros and the many we have living here in NY are big contributors to why NY pumps out so much talent. The Amsterdam Billiards scene in particular has been a huge asset to me. I’ve been fortunate enough to play pool with so many top players like Tony, Ginky, Mika, Thorsten, Jen Barretta, Jeanette Lee, Charlie Williams, GYK, Mike Sigel, Earl Strickland, Allison Fisher, Zion Zvi, I could go on and on. The small 2 minute bits of advice these top players pass to you in a casual conversation can save months of torture in guessing. I kinda get emotional just thinking about how lucky we are here. This is not to take away from areas like Texas, Cally & Florida who also have so many badass players. Anyone that can be surrounded by top players should watch them & take lessons from them any time they can. I’ve grown up so much as a player just watching and listening to the better players around me.

Notorious B.I.G. 4 Life!

3. Speaking of New York, a friend of mine mentioned that you live a stone’s throw from the Ed Sullivan Theater. Being that close, has Letterman ever impaled you with one of those pencils he’s always throwing out of his window?  Luckily no. However, I’d like to impale him for closing down 53rd street each week day and creating the “Siren”ating Traffic Jam on Broadway from 3-5pm. Where’s my sexy staffer outfit and a pencil?

4. Gambling and action. Good or bad for pool?  Personally, I’m not a gambler. I don’t mind anyone else doing it, it’s just not for me. I think the excitement of a good money match is GREAT for pool, it’s the “hustling” that I think is bad. That con man image hurts pool’s rep. I don’t like that.

5. Which is better NYC street food: The dirty water dog or mystery meat-on-a-stick?  Eeek, neither! Go vegetarian for a NY minute and opt for the yummy smelling nuts!

6. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the company you work for is one of the largest manufacturers of potassium nitrate. How does your passion for potassium mesh with your proclivity for playing pool?  Honestly, I have more interest in Olga’s passion for Potassium! :)

Anyone that takes their pool career seriously will tell you a full time job is a detriment to their game. You sacrifice so much of your personal life for this game, but we continue to feed the pool bug out of love and competitive addiction. I love this game. I love many of the people I’ve met in this game. I wouldn’t trade those sacrifices for anything.

7. You and your teammates always seem to be talking about killing bunnies. Is it the fluffy cottontail that causes such animosity, or is it simply the way they’re always hopping down the bunny trail?  Roger Rabbit picked that Jessica bitch over all of us. We’ve held a grudge ever since.

8. Miami or NYC?  NYC, hands down. I was only suppose to be here 2-3 yrs, it’ll be 6 yrs this July. The diverse people, the food, the seasons, the electricity. It’s hard to leave NYC. Though I miss Miami’s beaches and bigger closets, a car and of course, my family. I miss my family a great deal.

9. Stranded on an island question. 1 book, 1 album, 1 movie (because apparently this island has electricity, a flatscreen and DVD player, but no cable).  So, I’m at Riviera? :)

Book – Scarlett (the sequel to Gone with the Wind).
Album – Aerosmith: Big Ones
Movie – Tony’s Dragaonball/(z) movies/seasons … so he’ll never give up looking for me and I’ll get off that damn island.

10. Thanks for playing Ms. Squared. Before we go, is there anyone you want to rep, pimp and/or raise the proverbial roof for?  The Predator 9-Ball Tour & National Amateur Pool League are both going strong so thanks to all the players that support our endeavors. Don’t forget to check out PoolSynergy every 15th of the month for great insights into all things Pool.

Tony Robles, my coach & better half. Big Shout out to KOD & WTF? … love you guys!

Olhausen Billiards, KOD’s new sponsor. Predator Cues & Poison Billiards, my favorite cue products. Amsterdam Billiards, my favorite room in all of NYC. NYCGrind.com, the most innovative billiard news website there is, and williamfuentes.com for helping me look 16 again! :) PoolDawg’s been wonderful to work with!
