Ah Jasmin, We Hardly Knew Ye…
Well, for those who haven’t heard, the WPBA has commented on the suspension of Jasmin Ouschan. Here’s the long and short of it. Jasmin and all the rest of the players in the WPBA were told on August 6th that no waivers would be granted for the World 10 Ball Championships. Jasmin was specifically told that if she or any of the other WPBA players skipped a WPBA event to go to the 10 Ball Championships, penalties would be handed down. The other two invitees, Allison Fisher and Ga Young Kim passed on the 10 Ball event but Ouschan decided to play despite the warning.
As far as I’m concerned, there isn’t anything that Jasmin should be complaining about. She made her choice, she knew she was going to get punished and the WPBA handed down the punishment. Jasmin was even told that she could play in the season finale as her appeal was being processed, but she chose to skip the WPBA Championships anyway.
This is not going to end well for anyone. The WPBA needs Jasmin Ouschan on their tour, but they have to hold her to the same rules as the rest of the players. Now we have a situation where both Jasmin and the WPBA are pushing, but no one is going to budge. Jasmin made a choice and got punished. She didn’t like the punishment, so she issued a press release. That move pretty much guaranteed that her appeal is going to be denied.
Because of how the 2009 schedule is laying out, the earliest we could see Jasmin back on tour is July 29th 2009. If the two WPBA events listed as tentative get canceled and aren’t replaced, that would push Ouschan’s return all the way to Oct. 7th, ironically the Pacific Coast Classic which she skipped to go to the 10 Ball event.
My opinion? This is the last we’ll see of Jasmin Ouschan in the WPBA.
Well, now that there seems to be two sides to this story, can’t really feel bad for Jasmin. Oh well, hope she does well outside of the WPBA, she has a great game.
