Off Topic - What the Fuck Is A Superdelegate?!?!
March 5th, 2008 by poolcuereview

As I’m sure most of the world was, I watched last night’s primary with a bit more than mild interest, as it seems that either The Hill or The Obamanator will be our next president. With Hillary winning Texas and Ohio last night, it pretty much guaranteed that the donkey nomination would be decided by the “Superdelegates“.
Since it looks like they’ll be the ones deciding who wins the nomination, I figured I should look it up and see who will be controlling the nom in 2008:
* 19 Distinguished Party Leaders (DPL) (officially 23[2] less 2 Senators and 1 Governor listed in those categories and Ken Curtis, FL)
* 31 Democratic Governors (incl. the Mayor of DC and Governors of Territories)
* 48 members of the Senate (46 Senators and the 2 Shadow Senators from DC)
* 220 members of the House of Representatives (includes the 4 Congressional Delegates from DC and from the Territories)
* 400 Democratic National Committee Members (actually 404 delegates with 400 votes, considering the 8 Democrats Abroad delegates with ½ vote).
Someone at Wikipedia was nice enough to build the entire list of superdelegates for us which includes quite a few notable names, including that perpetual drunk Ted Kennedy, Nancy “The Nightmare” Pelosi and some 21 year old kid who’s been getting all sorts of attention for being a superdelegate and being gay.
What does this all mean? Basically that this will be the first brokered convention since 1952 and that the nomination will go to the candidate who is favored by a few hundred people instead of millions of people. Way to go Democratic Party!
